Model update! I've been making slow progress with this model, it's slowly getting there, have had a few set backs which have created longer delays that I'd hoped. Anyway here's a bit of a snapshot of the process thus far.
Sanded, primed and primer filler applied, waiting to be sanded.
Primer filler sanded to align components and achieve a silky smooth finish.
Primed again after sanding/fitting ready for colour.
I can't find the photos, but the colour and clear coat were then applied. Also I tried covering the carbon cradles with carbon fibre but had a couple of hick ups.
First, I was sanding the cradle before i was going to apply the first resin layer, but this piece (the most fragile piece of my model), had a run in with the concrete. Luckily it was a clean break and i was able to glue it back together and re-sand.
Second:
Carbon mat would not stick to the tacky resin. In hind sight I should have taped the edges back on itself.
Bummer.
This one worked the best out of the lot but it still has issues and is not as consistent as I'd hoped.
I decided to organise the electronics to make the status lights work correctly. In doing this, I did damage the paint a bit, not a real issue because I wanted to re-do it anyway. The status light bar is working exactly as I planned which is a nice change. I also trimmed the carbon piece that came out average, to get an idea of how she will look in the end.
Wow, its starting to look really good Brad,
ReplyDeleteThe blue looks very nice and the carbon will look awesome when finished. Well done for sticking with it. Also, the colour looks real nice, might have to get you to mix up a can for mine soon. Although i should have enough black left from my wheels for the black parts i will need silver.
I also had a run in with the concrete... after i had a run in with being to rough with one of my posts... whoops.. which glue is best for that? epoxy?
Oh true. i find super glue is the best as it strengthens the broken part before contact, then joins it well without leaving a space in the parts.
