Update

^^ Old ^^
for comparison

So its finished in enough detail now to print at least. Time permitting i will still add detail for the renders.. cpu's wiring and such to make it look pretty, doors and what not too, but its ready to print assuming the big V is happy with it. should be a pretty good sized model.. if i can get the components printed that is.. the side things to give you an idea will be 220mm tall... that will fit in the big printer yeah? our gear knobs were pretty long..

Anyway.. as usual, thoughts? i'm still not 100% happy with the end things, they still have no real function beyond their aesthetic appeal, which isn't that great even.. was thinking about adding some cool lights to the desk they may come from those posts..

  1. It's looking really good. I like how you've enclosed the ends to form a cavity on the inside of the desk, looks good. I'm trying to decide if in full scale those end timer things would be too high and pointy, but I don't think it's a critical issue. I kind of liked how they flattened off on top on the old one. Other than that, looks rad and can't wait to see a mock-up.

Also, tiny thing; I think if you are going for timber, specify solid timber board as the material for construction. Laminate is just such low quality garbage, it just screams TV or Microwave from the 80's. If you arent going for timber in the end, I think painting it in 2-pack would make it look high quality and suit the airport aesthetic.

If you want to avoid rendering the clear surface on your desktop with those prismatic lines through it, space the part even 0.1mm above the desktop. The rendering engine doesn't seem to handle surfaces existing on the same plane as another.

Awesome work man, I like it, will be cool to see it in context with the TVs turned on :)
